Gabriel Barrera is the Charge Scenic Artist at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Gabriel began his career in visual arts. He came to love scenic art when first working at Knott’s Scary Farm as a scenic artist in the year 2000. Since his first interaction with scenic art he pursued various outlets that led him towards a career as a scenic artist. The caliber of his work has propelled him to work with nationally renowned directors and designers.

Along with advancing the field of scenic painting, Gabriel is leading initiatives to diversify and create inclusion within the production department at OSF and in the industry. His passion for true inclusion in production has lead him to realize that equity, diversity and inclusion are his life’s work. He is involved in outreach programing and workshops that target and expose underrepresented communities to a career in technical theatre. Gabriel believes in networking, collaboration and mentorship as a means to leadership and believes in empowering others through these core values. Gabriel operates and owns ScenicG which offers scenic painting workshops to the public as well as to educational organizations. He intends to provide scenic art guidance and instruction to beginners, professionals, underrepresented youth and communities of color.
