Versa-Style Dance Company

Performing in the 2014 Green Show Friday, September 12 and Sunday, September 14.

This is their frist season in the OSF Green Show.

A vibrant, energetic, family fun production that inspires through edu-tainment.

Versa-Style Dance Company was founded in 2005 by Jackie Lopez and Leigh Foaad. While work toward her BA in Dance at UCLA, Jackie met Leigh through her culminating senior project, and the two instantly hit it off as co-workers, and began furthering their work together. Once Jackie graduated, they created Versa-Style Dance Company. Ever since then, the company has been performing all over Los Angeles and has been growing every year, both as a company and as an organization.

Now a certified 501(c)(3) non profit, VS has toured all over the world including places such as India (2012) and Israel (2012), through the US Embassy Envoy program. During their 10-day stays in these cities, Versa-Style traveled all over teaching inspiring workshops, giving lecture demonstrations, and performing for sell out crowds and eliciting standing ovations. Additionally, VS has self-produced full length productions in Los Angeles in 2009, 2011, and most recently in 2013 at the prestigious John Anson Ford Amphitheatre as part of the Summer Series. Each show has been a huge success, selling out each venue and receiving rave reviews from dance critics and fans alike. Finally, Versa-Style has also taken part in legendary Hip Hop dance festivals across the country such as the San Francisco Hip Hop Dance Festival (2009, 2010, 2012), the J.U.i.C.E. Hip Hop Dance Festival (2009-2012), and the Illadelph Legends Festival in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2010).

Versa-Style Dance Company on Community: Versa-Style is heavily involved in the community, using Hip Hop dance as a tool to inspire and educate. The foremost action Versa-Style has taken over the years is the creation of Versa-Style Next Generation in 2009, a junior company made up of youth from underserved areas in Los Angeles. Jackie and Leigh have mentored each student in VSNG from as early as 11 years old, and continue to mentor them today. Using Hip Hop dance and an education-first attitude, the VSNG program has saved lives, and offered professional opportunities to dance and experience what it’s like to be in a legitimate dance company. Also, each member of VSNG is now attending college as they pursue their education along with a career in dance.

Secondly, Versa-Style conducts LAUSD tours each year, offering free educational shows to elementary, middle, and high schools, through a partnership with the Flourish Foundation. Each year, VS reaches over 15,000 students, attending 10-15 schools each year. These one hour shows serve to inspire and educate youth on the value of expression, dedication, hard work, and discipline, and also educate on the history and power of street dance in our community.
