This is their first season in the OSF Green Show.
Their people are beautiful, their heritages are unique, their cultures are colorful, and their country is Taiwan.
Taiwanese Aborigines Culture Tour (TACT) is established on a great undertaking: to tie in Asian-American Heritage Month in May, 2015.
It has been created by eight (8) organizers including World United Formosans for Independence - USA (WUFI), Taiwanese Association of America – USA (TAA), Prof. Chen Wen Cheng Memorial Foundation – USA (C.W.C.M.F.), Taiwanese Heritage Society – USA (THS), Friends for Taiwan – USA (FFA), The Presbyterian Church in Taiwan – Taiwan (PCT), Alliance of Referendum for Taiwan – Taiwan (ART), and Taiwanese Association of University Professors (TAUP/Taiwan). It is a civilian independent group, without any supports by government funds or commercial enterprises; and it is really a first attempt of a task of this kind. TACT depends on the donations for self-supports, during the journey. TACT will be executed by WUFI-USA, associated with Taiwanese Center, Culture Center, Foundations, Taiwanese-American Association, the key Taiwanese-American Association, and Taiwanese-American Presbyterian Church, etc. in the cities visited.
The mission of TACT is: (1) To promote the Taiwanese aborigines cultures, and to emphasize Taiwan Identity; (2) To promote Taiwanese visibility around the World, and to establish Taiwanese new international image; (3) To cultivate the international views for Taiwanese aborigines, and to help them understanding the policy for Indian tribes in USA; (4) To help forward cooperation between Taiwanese and their overseas citizens; and to emphasize their Taiwan Identity, as well as to promote its consensus and capacity for their cultural movement.
The special features of Taiwanese Aborigines are: (1) Their people are beautiful; (2) Their heritages are unique; (3) Their cultures are colorful; and (4) Their country is Taiwan.
Taiwanese aborigines are not a single tribe; but are peoples combining many different tribes together. Each tribe has their own culture, language, custom, and social structure; and they belongs to part of
Austronesian peoples. They are the basic and important root in the Taiwanese History and Culture, as a unique and invaluable treasure. As of January 2015, their total population is around 540,583, approximately 2.31% of Taiwan's population. The currently recognized 16 tribes are: Amis, Atayal, Paiwan, Bunun, Puyuma, Rukai, Tsou, Saisiyat, Yami , Thao, Kavalan, Truku, Sakizaya, Seediq, Hla’alua, and Kanakanvu.
2015 TACT is of 15 members led by Prof. Ting-Kuei Tsay and Pastor Omi Wilanh of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. Their members are selected from the different tribes, who are from all walks of life in Taiwan. They take one month leave from their works, presenting the real face of Taiwanese aborigines, as well as their traditional and beautiful cultures to the audiences.
2015 TACT, starting from May 16 through June 8, 2015, will visit the cities: including Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Phoenix, San Diego, Los Angeles, Orange County, Las Vegas, San Jose, San Francisco, Ashland, Portland, and Seattle. There are 13 concerts will be held in these cities visited. Besides, TACT will visit Indian reservations, as well as to deliver speech related to Taiwanese aborigine’s culture in the university campus.
