UNIVERSES

Founded in The Bronx, New York in 1995, Universes is a pioneer genre-shifting ensemble in the American Theatre. Equipped with cultural, academic and professional experience, their body of work continues to change the face of live theatrical performance in America and abroad. With their unique brand of storytelling UNIVERSES creates theatre that is polymorphic, grounded in heightened experiences, musical landscapes, social advocacy and passionate commitment to truth revelation. Their plays continue to reverberate and inspire dialogue globally. UNIVERSES is currently OSF's Resident Ensemble Company. UNIVERSES' Party People (a two time Edward M. Kennedy finalist - 2013/2014) was commissioned in 2009 and premiered in 2012 through OSF's American Revolutions: the United States History Cycle.  They have also appeared in four seasons of The Green Show.

Using Hurricane Katrina as a jumping off point, Ameriville is a highly entertaining performance piece fusing hip-hop, poetry, flamenco, standup comedy, music and spoken word. Universes weaves this electrifying 90-minute theatrical exploration of race, class, poverty, immigration and political awareness into a great adventure about what it means to be American.

Ameriville was originally directed by Chay Yew, with choreography by Millicent Johnnie and sound designed by Benjamin Marcum.

In its third year, OSF Presents is a program designed to give Oregon Shakespeare Festival artists an arena to share their art with the public on a larger scale than they may be able to do independently. The artists are a mix of company members, Green Show guest artists and playwrights. Proceeds from the shows are shared by the artists and OSF.  This program is funded in part by the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation.
