James A. Williams is thrilled to be making his Oregon Shakespeare Festival debut this season. Broadway: August Wilson’s Radio Golf. Off-Broadway: Signature Theatre: The Piano Lesson; My Children! My Africa; Jitney. Regional:Two River Theater (Gem of the Ocean), Cal Shakes (Lear), The Goodman Theater (Gem of the Ocean), The Guthrie Theater (King Lear), Seattle Rep (Fences), Syracuse Stage (Fences), Baltimore CenterStage, (Joe Turner’s Come and Gone), Arena Stage, Mark Taper Forum, Hartford Stage, The McCarter Theater, Pillsbury House & Theatre, Yale Repertory Theater & The Kennedy Center. Favorite Roles Include Roosevelt Hicks (Radio Golf), Zachariah (Bloodknot), Logger (Bulrusher), Memphis (Two Trains Running) & Ogun Size (Brother-Sister Plays). James is a longtime Twin Cities social justice theatre instructor. In 2012 his alma mater, Macalester College, named him a Distinguished Global Citizen for his work with youth. In 2023, the school bestowed upon him a Doctorate of Humane Letters and renamed their Black Box Theater in his honor. James is a proud member of Actors’ Equity Association.
