Composer/sound artist David Molina (composer and sound designer for this season's The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window) combines acoustic instruments and electronics to create dreamy lush textures.
David Molina is an award winning composer, musician, sound artist, sound designer, studio engineer, instrument inventor, and installation artist. He has created music and sound for theatre, dance, film, video, multimedia installation, performance art, and radio for over 18 years. He also has been performing and writing all types of music in various bands or ensembles throughout his life. He has worked with numerous San Francisco/bay area theatre companies, performing arts venues, educational institutes, as well as several regional companies and institutes in the U.S. and internationally.
Recently he has been inventing and building instruments from salvaged materials. These instruments become part of interactive, multimedia installations displayed at galleries and festivals. Some highlights include: Lydia (Yale Repertory Theatre, Mark Taper Forum), also Cornerstone Theater Company, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Campo Santo, Cultural Odyssey, El Teatro Campesino, Counter Pulse, BRAVA Theater. David Molina on Community: I am involved in many different communities. From The latino community with my own back ground and work (though this concert may not necessarily have a Latino flavor), to my work with social justice theater companies working with at risk youth, former victims and offender of violent crime, incarcerated men and women, sex workers, LGTB, undocumented immigrants and day laborers.
I also work with many types of performing artists and visual artists, so my work has been featured in theater, film, art galleries, dance, and multimedia productions.
