Eclectic original music collaborates with exciting metamorphic dance theatre
Jazz Mafia and Emily Athena Abrahams Dance share a rich history of performance collaborations while working together with The Vau de Vire Society circus in the San Francisco Bay Area. Past shows include The Soiled Dove, The Edwardian Ball, New Bohemia, and featured performances at The Eclipse Festival, Symbiosis, and Burning Man.
In 2000, Adam Theis co-founded Jazz Mafia; an eclectic artist collective of some of the most forward-thinking and accomplished players of Electro, Hip-Hop, World, Classical, and of course, Jazz. As Jazz Mafia’s director, Adam has assembled over 100 different live projects over the past 17 years, and led/co-led dozens of acclaimed bands. As a collection of the Bay Area's most talented and prolific musicians, singers, and MC's, the Jazz Mafia has become the quintessential San Francisco sound.
Synthesizing multiple metamorphic movement modalities, Emily Athena Abrahams Dance is a dance theatre experience that transcends categorization. Upon earning her BFA in Contemporary Dance from The North Carolina School of the Arts, Emily joined Ashland’s own Dancing People Company as a founding company member. After many years with DPC, she joined Seraphim Dance Theatre, expanding her repertoire to include fire dance, belly dance, and circus. With both Dancing People Company and Seraphim, Emily enjoyed many summers performing at the OSF Green Show. In the San Francisco Bay Area Emily performed with The Vau de Vire Society circus where she began making many memorable collaborations with Jazz Mafia. Upon returning to Ashland, her newest endeavors include creating eclectic performance experiences under Emily Athena Abrahams Dance and co-founding The TransformOtion Dance Temple and School.
