Love tragedy from an ancient Chinese folktale

The Tianjin New Generation Peking Opera Troupe was organized in 1984 as a professional Peking Opera performance organization. The idea is to integrate all the resources from different generations under the tradition of Peking Opera.

Since 1994 to the present day, the troupe has been nominated by Ministry of Culture as one of the 11 top Peking Opera performance organizations in China. Under the guidance of Peking Opera master, Mr. Zhang Junqiu, the troupe developed its own style in Peking Opera performance and doing a splendid show in both China and abroad. The troupe has won many awards, such as the "Mei Hua Prize," the "Wen Hua Prize" and the "Mei Lanfang Golden Prize." They have played many famous operas, like The West Chamber, Love Story of White Snake, and The Story in the Palace of Chu State to name a few of them. They have performed many tour shows in China as well as in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Argentina and Mexico.

Zhao Xiujun: State First-Class Actress, graduated from the Drama School of Tianjin. She obtained a postgraduate degree at the Chinese Opera Institute and is granted special government allowances every year. She plays women in Beijing opera performances.

She was awarded the Plum Blossom Award of China Drama,the highest award of drama in China. She has also received the Best Actress award in National middle-aged actor Competition; and The Best Performance Award in the 3rd China Beijing Opera Art Festivals, 2001.

Yan Wei: State First-Class Actress, graduated from the Drama School of Tianjin. She obtained a postgraduate degree at the Chinese Opera Institute. She plays a woman skilled in Chinese Kung Fu in the Beijing opera performances.

She received the Plum Blossom Award of China Drama, the highest award of drama in China; the Wenhua performance award; the best Actress award in National middle-aged actor Competition; and Outstanding Performance Award in the 3rd China Beijing Opera Art Festivals, 2001.

Kang Jian: State First-Class Actor, graduated from the Drama School of Tianjin.  He plays the young man in Beijing opera performances.

He was awarded the Outstanding Performance Award in the 3rd China Beijing Opera Art Festivals, 2001.

Zhang Ke: State First-Class Actor, Graduated from the Drama School of Tianjin. He obtained a postgraduate degree at the Chinese Opera Institute and receives special government allowances every year. He portrays Middle-aged and elderly men in Beijing opera performances.

He got the Plum Blossom Award of China Drama, the  highest award of drama in China; the Wenhua performance award; the Best Actor award in National middle-aged actor Competition; Magnolia Main Actor award; Outstanding Performance Award in the 4th China Beijing Opera Art Festivals, 2004; additionally the Asia's Most Outstanding Artist Award was conferred on him by the United States and China Art Association in 2005.

Li Peihong: State First-Class Actress, graduated from the Drama School of Tianjin. She obtained a postgraduate degree at the Chinese Opera Institute and receives special government allowances every year. She plays women in Beijing opera performances.

She was awarded the Plum Blossom Award of China Drama, the  highest award of drama in China; as well as the Best Actress award in National middle-aged actor Competition; and the Magnolia main actor award.

Wang Yue: State First-Class Instrumentalist, Jinghu player, graduated from the Drama School of Tianjin (Jinghu is the most important instrument when the performers sing).

Zhu Jianzhong: State First-Class Instrumentalist, Jinghu player, graduated from the Drama School of Tianjin.

Cui Hong: State First-Class Instrumentalist, Drummer, graduated from the Drama School of Tianjin. The drummer is the heart and soul of the orchestra, and grasps the rhythm of the whole story during the performance.

The Tianjin New Generation Peking Opera's visit to Ashland is accompanied by a delegation of Chinese officials, without whom this trip would not be possible. They are:

Tianjin New Generation Peking Opera Troupe on Community: The theatre of the troupe, located in Tianjin, is the top Peking Opera performance venue, attracting many Peking Opera fans of different generations from all over China. Mr Li Ruihuang, the former Chairman of China's Political Consultant Committee gives the troupe special attention. We love to connect with all communities who are interested in Peking Opera and Chinese culture in general.
