Joel Sass is a stage director, designer and adapter based in Minneapolis, where he creates new stage work and reinterprets classic plays. 

Other theatres: Regional: Designed and directed more than 15 productions, including Venus in Fur, The Birthday Party, The Seafarer, Blithe Spirit, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, I Am My Own Wife, The Syringa Tree, Shipwrecked!, Mary’s Wedding, Hitchcock Blonde, Shining City, The Last of the Boys (Jungle Theater); for eight years, was artistic director of the experimental Mary Worth Theatre Company, where he designed and directed Valley of the Dolls, Titus Andronicus, The History of the Devil, Crazyface, among others. The 39 Steps, Pericles, 9 Parts of Desire (Guthrie Theater); Pericles, Titus Andronicus, Macbeth (California Shakespeare Theater); Lettice and Lovage (Theatre de la Jeune Lune); The 39 Steps (Arizona Theatre Company); Oliver Twist, Noises Off, Dirty Blonde, The Mystery of Irma Vep, Triumph of Love (Park Square Theatre). 

Awards: 2005 McKnight Theater Artist Fellowship, two Ameriprise IVEY Awards, 2007 Alan Schneider Director Award, administered by Theater Communications Group (TCG).
