Other credits: Founder and artistic director of Penumbra Theatre in St. Paul, Minn. During his 35-year tenure, Penumbra has evolved into one of America’s premier theatres dedicated to dramatic exploration of the African American experience. Under his leadership, Penumbra has produced 25 world premieres, including August Wilson’s first professional production, and has produced more of Mr. Wilson’s plays than any other theatre.

Teaching: Associate professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance, University of Minnesota.
