Co-Costume Designer, Once on This Island
Yvonne L. Miranda is excited to make her debut as co-costume designer for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Once on This Island. A native of Dallas, Texas, and war veteran of the United States Marine Corps, she traded in her combat boots for a career in costume, fashion, and scenic design in film, television, theatre, and opera. Her passion for visual storytelling has led to a diverse career with work as a freelance fashion illustrator featured on The Real Housewives of Dallas, to designing the costume worn by 50-foot celebrity animatronic mascot Big Tex at the 2016–2018 Texas State Fair. She has garnered such achievements as the competitive Television Academy’s costume design internship, as well as winning 2019’s Black Theatre Network’s Judy Dearing Costume Design Competition for her work on Southern Methodist University’s opera production of Our Town, where she received her M.F.A. in Stage Design. She has recently relocated to the Chicago area and has several exciting productions in the works across the U.S. www.yvonnejohnsondesigns.com
