An American lyricist and librettist. His partnership with Frederick Loewe produced some of the world’s most popular and enduring works of musical theatre for both stage and film.
Other work: With Frederick Loewe: Brigadoon, Paint Your Wagon, Gigi, Camelot and The Little Prince. With other collaborators: Love Life (Kurt Weill); A Royal Wedding (a movie musical, with Burton Lane); Coco (André Previn); Lolita, My Love (John Barry); 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (Leonard Bernstein); Carmelina (Burton Lane); Dance a Little Closer (Charles Strouse). He wrote the screenplay for An American in Paris.
Awards: Three Tony Awards (two for My Fair Lady) and three Academy Awards (An American in Paris, two for Gigi), among other honors.
Education: Harvard University and The Juilliard School.
