This electrifying, immersive call to action is inspired by the life of famed civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer—whose grit, humor, and courage in the face of fire remind us that there’s hope in tomorrow and we all have a stake in our country. This passionate, song-filled rallying cry—part spiritual revival, part political call to action—defines what it means to be a true revolutionary.
Starting September 1, OSF’s own Greta Oglesby, an actress and singer of “earth-shaking vocal prowess” (Minneapolis Star-Tribune), will take on the role of Fannie through the end of the run.
“Fannie is a perfect show for us to reconvene in person. This music-filled play about a towering figure in the fight for civil rights is an inspiring call to action to continue Hamer’s work. With virtuosic singing, dynamic acting, and a rousing live score, Fannie is what we have been missing in the absence of live theatre. We are tremendously moved to have artists back onstage in the Elizabethan, performing work that speaks to the moment, and for our local communities and travelers to Ashland to join us in this joy.”
